 | El death metal es un subgénero extremo del heavy metal. Se identifica por su extrema brutalidad. Las voces guturales (llamadas en inglés growls) son asperas y frecuentemente incomprensibles. También está caracterizado por un tempo muy abrupto, con unas baterías muy rápidas. La letra de sus canciones están relacionadas con el horror, que incluye historias de terror y muerte, el anticristianismo y satanismo también son temas que abarca este genero. Problemas mentales y físicos en el hombre, enfermedades son tópicos secundarios por los cuales algunas bandas optan. También son frecuentes los temas relacionados con los asesinos en serie, el canibalismo, principalmente en el brutal death metal, las parafilias.
